Another First for TCC2: Thame Children’s Choir

“Wow! Aren’t they good?” was one audience member’s comment – typical of the highly appreciative buzz that TCC2 created at Aylesbury Festival Choir’s concert In Aylesbury Methodist Church last Saturday 28th November. “Musically, they were a delight, and their behaviour at both rehearsal and performance was exemplary” reported Mike Elliott, Aylesbury Festival Choir Chairman. “They sang like angels!” enthused an audience member.

TCC2 Senior Choir were performing alongside Aylesbury Festival Choir and Aylesbury Festival Ensemble in Rutter’s Mass of the Children. For many members this was their first experience of singing alongside instrumentalists as well as an adult choir and soloists but they thrilled both audience and fellow performers with their musicality and composure. “What a great experience for them” was the verdict from many choir parents proudly watching their children’s enjoyment in their performance and the subsequent appreciation from the audience.

TCC2 is in high demand these days with requests for performances coming in from all directions!

TCC2 can next be heard alongside Thame Chamber Choir in their Christmas is Coming! concerts on Saturday 19th December – two performances – a shorter 4.30pm performance aimed at families with young children and then a normal 7.30pm evening concert. See for more information on events and how to join this thriving choir.

Thame Children’s Choir get starring role in new BBC Children’s programme.  TCC2 was thrilled to be asked to record the signature tune for cbbc’s new Cinemaniacs programme, currently running at 9am on Saturday mornings – an exciting and novel experience for the choir. The request came about last October through Philip Pope, a local musician and composer who sings with the adult Thame Chamber Choir. Philip had written a signature tune for the TV programme but needed some children to record the song before submitting it to the producers – so naturally he turned to TCC2.

With just 3 days to get a group with the required type of voices together, a small group from the choir gathered at Philip’s recording studio in Owlswick to record the song. Several hours of hard work later (including a lot of fun as well!) the recording was ‘in the can’ but with no guarantee at that stage that it would be accepted by the producers.

Several months went by before the choir was thrilled to hear that their recording was going to be used (with actors miming their singing) – a real feather in the cap for TCC2, Thame and Thame Chamber Choir.
